SLP Profiles Windermere At national EventThe Lake District’s largest holiday parks operators is hoping to attract important new tourism business to Lake Windermere at a major travel show this week (February 17-25th). South Lakeland Parks, which includes within its portfolio five-star sites at Fallbarrow Park at Bowness and White Cross Bay, on the shores of England’s longest lake, is heading to the National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show at the NEC in Birmingham. With the introduction of the 10mph speed limit on Windermere effectively changing the type of customers using the lake, the event in Birmingham broadly appeals to “cruiser couples,” or those looking to upgrade or buy high-quality, tranquil boats for cruising and luxury lodge holiday homes. Graham Hodgson, Chief Executive of South Lakeland Parks, said: “The speed limit has changed the type of visitors now using Lake Windermere and as one of the key tourism businesses in the area, we need to attract new markets to ensure the area continues to have a high profile in the minds of potential visitors.” ”We hope to ensure that anyone looking to buy a boat or holiday home at the show in Birmingham is aware that Windermere is a great location for a holiday and that South Lakeland Parks has the advantage of two perfectly situated sites, allowing visitors to stay in a luxury holiday lodge or caravan on the shores of Lake Windermere which offers direct access to jetties, perfect for boat moorings.”
The event in Birmingham attracted 142,000 people last year, with markets including young families and retired couples as well as adventurous 20-somethings. Organisers of the event say the average visitor is 43 years-old with an equal 50-50 male/ female split. Their average household income is around £38,000 – or £12,000 more than the national average. South Lakeland Parks, whose headquarters are at Natland, near Kendal, runs a total of nine sites across Cumbria and Lancashire. It offers luxury caravan holiday homes and pine lodges for sale or hire at lakeside, coastal and woodland locations, where people can also camp and tour. |
