South Lakeland Parks Takes Action For Premature DaffodilsTHE mildest winter for 93 years coupled with warm, spring-like temperatures means a holiday park in the Lake District is taking action to make sure visitors are still greeted by a host of golden daffodils this Easter. South Lakeland Parks is importing dozens of bunches of foot-long silk imitations for its five-star site at Fallbarrow Park on the shores of Lake Windermere - because many daffodils in the Lake District are in full bloom already – weeks before Easter. The unseasonally mild winter, which has officially been the warmest since 1914, has meant that the frosty cold spells which usually delay the emergence of daffodils in the Lake District until late March has not taken place in 2007.
Caroline Guffogg, of South Lakeland Parks, said: “Two of our three holiday parks that we operate in the Lake District are okay and still have lots of daffodils to come out but there are lots of daffodils in full bloom already at Fallbarrow Park on the shore of Windermere.” “We don’t know if it is global warming or just because Fallbarrow Park is western facing and more open and it has had more sun and daylight this year than in the past.” “Lots of people book a holiday here at Easter and our holiday home owners start coming back to their pine lodges. We pride ourselves on customer service and if that means getting an emergency supply in so that they get to see daffodils in the Lake District – so be it. Seeing daffodils by Lake Windermere is a big attraction because of Wordsworth’s Poem and it is a major reason for guests visiting.”
