£1 million “splashed” out on pool

THE Right Worshipful Mayor of Lancaster, Coun Helen Helme, will officially unveil a £1 million indoor swimming pool at a leading North Lancashire holiday park on Saturday, October 20.

The exclusive new development, which will be opened at midday, is a fantastic new addition to the facilities at The Regent holiday and leisure park at Westgate, a four-star site close to Morecambe Promenade.

Measuring 39ft by 22ft, the pool is part of a rolling programme of new investment at the site this year including a new sports arena, as well as a major refurbishment of the leisure complex this Winter..

Graham Hodgson – chief executive of the Regent’s parent company South Lakeland Parks and Vice Chairman of Morecambe FC - said local businesses were used to carry out the work which features a children’s paddling section and sauna and replaces the old outdoor pool.

He said: “One of the benefits is that the old pool could only be enjoyed between May Bank Holiday through to September. This new one will be open all year round so that owners and holidaymakers can use the pool for 10-and-a-half months of the season rather just a few months and we hope it will be another incentive for them to book a holiday or purchase a static caravan.”

Coun Helme commented: “I am delighted that South Lakeland Parks is making such a significant investment in Morecambe by developing its facilities. As well as providing local jobs, it will give people another reason to visit the area which has to be good for all businesses.”
